Does anyone have within their family, reference to a young man who was brought to America as a British soldier, was wounded in the Battle of Monmouth in June 1778, and eventually deserted and remained in America? I believe he was born c.1760.

His name in America was William McDermott (McDarmot, McDarmott), and it is believed his family had a farm somewhere in County Roscommon. He had 10 children: Thomas, Miles, Esek, Loftus, David, John, William, Mary, Isabel, Nancy.

Would really like to know more about his short life in Ireland. Any help would certainly be appreciated.
