I am looking for information about my great grandfather Thomas Patrick Shanley or the names of any relatives who are still living in Ireland. My great grandfather was born in Leitrim County in 1857. He had a brother named Miles Shanley who was born in Mayo County in 1855. My great grandfather's father was named Bernard Shanley and he was married to Mary Creegan. Bernard Shanley's father was named Patrick.
Thomas immigrated to Auburn, California, USA when he was around 16 years old. His brother Miles immigrated with him and lived in Auburn for a while before moving on to Colorado. Thomas Patrick Shanley married Maryanne Orr in 1883 and my grandmother was born in 1885. My mother was born in 1916.

I don't have info on your relative, but just started a search of my own today...with the same surname Shanley from the same County. I was wondering if you my know somehting of a Bridget or Beatrice Shanley (my greatgrandmother). Came to America between 1903 and 1911. Left from Cobh. Entered Philadelphia. If you can give me any tips to continue my search I'd be grateful.

Shanley is a very popular surname in the south of the county especially in the parish of Bornacoola. There are many Shanley families living ther today.

Yours is the first message that mentions a Creegan, My ggmother was Catherine (Kate) Creegan. She married John McGarry, 1/19/1852 in Gortletteragh R.C.parishand they lived in Clooncarn townland, Mohill district She died after 1901. I grew up in New Haven CT and there were a number of Shanleys there.
