Hi I am tracing my family tree. My Great Great Grandfather was Michael Clancy born c1854 from Leitrim. He married a Mary Golden from Dublin sometime between 1872 and 1880. They moved to Manchester England where they had my Great Grandfather John Owen Clancy in 1880. The family settled here but I can find no trace of them in Ireland. I assume the names John and Owen were probably from Michaels family passed down. Has anyone come across any other John Owen or Owen Clancy's in Leitrim as part of their searches.
Also I am told the surname Golden is unusual in Ireland. Does anyone else have anyone by this name c1850's from Dublin
I would be interested to hear from you
Best Regards
Alan |

It might all be coincidence but Clancy and Golden would both be common names around Manorhamilton. The Clancys would have been the old Gaelic Chieftens around the Dartry Mountains area (Glenade Kinlough area Rossinver civil parish) and Golden were one of the local ascendancy families. There are still a number of Goldens around Manorhamilton. Are you sure she was from Dublin?, maybe she was also from Leitrim, perhaps they eloped due to the religious divide. As I said it might all be a concidence. |
