Known to have have been labouring on the Cavan and Leitrim narrow gauge railway as a young man at, or around, Dromod , the only work he could find at the time.
Crossed over to England or Scotland, first with a \\'College\\' hoeing the sugar beet, then navvying as a public works labourer. In Hastings in 1934 and then in Alton, Hampshire by 1936. Ended his working life as railwayman at Rugby station. Died near Basingstoke, Hampshire in 1984. Roman Catholic. and even a possibility that he had tried out the religious life.
Wouldn\\'t talk about his early life so we suspect that he had been in serious trouble. Maybe even changed some of his details to avoid consequences?
