There is one addition to Patrick's list of newspapers of that period - The Strokestown Democrat was founded by the Morahan family in 1907 and continued publishing until 1948. The Democrat is also remembered as the only newspaper in the region which supported and printed election leaflets for Count P...

Paul As Martin Foley was born in the townland of Curreentorpan in the old civil parish of Tibohine which is now incorporated in the present Catholic parishes of Fairymount and Loughglynn. I would guess Martin was buried in one of the cemeteries close to his townland. I'm not familiar with these ceme...

My guess is that your answer lies with the Connor families that are listed for Clooncah in the 1901 Census. It may be that Bernard was a brother of your Jane as one of his daughters is also named Jane. The parents may be Timothy and Mary who lived next door to Bernard. Today, there is one entry for ...

Maggie The present Fuerty church was built in 1957 and dedicated to the Assumption. It replaced an earlier church, St. Kieran's, which was built about 1812. The church is located in the towland of Creemully which adjoins the townland of Castlecoote. I think there is a shop or two in Castlecoote Vill...

Civil registration of births, marriages and deaths only started in 1864, except for Protestant marriages which began in 1845. Church records generally date back to the 1830s but vary from parish to parish.

Good luck with your research
