Jimmy Deenihan, Minister for Arts, Heritage and Gaeltacht, has said that he is very keen to pursue publication of the 1926 census, and has sought clarification on the legal and statutory issues involved..
In terms of genealogical tourism there is much to be gained.

Sign the Petition to open the 1926 Census

I think every household should write in the margin at the top of the current Census form "Please release the 1926 Census". Can anybody see any legal issues in doing this? The problem with the Petition is that it is confined to Facebook members. I think if my suggestion got enough publicity...

There are no maps to match locations of houses in either census. If you knew the predecessors of your Mary c. 1856 you could try this link, http://griffiths.askaboutireland.ie/gv family search form.php.There were about 10 Maguires leasing land in Cloone at that time. There is one Maguire listed in e...

Sunnagh More Property Location From 1910 & 1911 Census

The houses did not have actual numbers, but numbers were allocated for the purpose of enumeration. So 31 and 28 was most likely the same house.

Roscommon Journal

Would anybody have to sell or lend vol. 4, 1992, of the CO. Roscommon Historical and Archaeological Society Journal?
I have all other issues, and would do a temporary swop.

Census of Ireland, 1926

Census of Ireland 1926. Following the 1911 census, the next census to be conducted in Ireland was in 1926. Under normal circumstances, this would not be due for release until 2026. However a petition for early release has been opened on www.petitionspot.com/petitions/1926C. Anybody interested should...

Constable Martin Foley, Cloonbella, was baptised Castlerea, July 29, 1888. He was son of Michael Foley and Anne Freeman.
I, too would like to know his burial place.

Leitrim Castle

Thanks John, again those links refer only to Co. Leitrim, whereas my Leitrim Castle was in Co. Roscommon. I do however have an appointment to view some files relating to Leitrim Castle at The National Monument Archives on December 8,and if there are any significant findings, I will post them here. T...

Leitrim Castle

Thanks again Ed. Sadly all of those sites appear to be some distance from Leitrim townland, Kilbride Parish.
In 1837 John O'Donovan wrote "the ruins of a castle exist in the townland of Leitrim which belonged to the O'Flanagans"
Kind regards, Patrick

Leitrim Castle

Hi Ed, many thanks for your prompt reply. Now, your Leitrim village is about 20 miles from my Leitrim townland where the Castle ruins lie. But can you say whether O'Rourke's Castle was actually in Leitrim village, Co. Leitrim, or Leitrim townland in Co. Roscommon? Patrick

Leitrim Castle

In Griffiths maps from 1850s, there is reference to "site of Leitrim Castle". This site is just off the Roscommon-Strokestown road, in Leitrim townland, Kilbride parish,Co. Roscommon. It is within a few hundred metres of the point where Major Denis Mahon was shot in 1847. All that is visib...
