Major Francis French

Major French had lnads in Kellybrook and a report in The Roscommon Messenger 13th may 1899 provides details of him prosecuting a tenant a James Duffy for trespassing. I do no know if this French is of interest.

They are several Sharkeys from the Storkestown and Frenchpark. Una Sharkey did an immense amount for the gaelic league and I have further details.

De Freyne estate and evictions 1902

Dear Jackie,

The Roscommon Journal of 23 August 1902 page provides a report about a Dominick Connor who occupies 5 acres to be evicted. He lived at Clonmagannoe a few miles from Frenchpark.

1902 seems to be a busy year for evictions. I will keep looking at my newspaper cuttings.

Noel Farrells book" Roscommon Town" has a reference to a photograph collection of Fr. Browne which has a photograph of Hope and Prudence French daughters of Lord de Freyne - 1948.

Thank you for your information. As they lived in Canal Row which is near two mills I suspect that is why they moved to Todmorden for work. There was also a strong Roman Catholic Church where one of of the McGarry's danced etc for the Irish nights.
