Michael McGuire born around c. 1894 in Lissagarvin, Leitrim - emigrated to NYC c. 1915. MCGUIRE married a PRIOR and they had 3 boys and 2 girls. The eldest was Catherine. Townlands today?

I was wondering if anyone can answer this. It seems that townlands aren't used in Ireland today like they were in the past. Are they considered neighborhoods today? I understand that back in the day, they were not towns but rather just surveyed areas of land that could be an acre to hundreds of acre...

haha... you don't place much validity on relatives' accounts, eh? :) thanks for the reply ... It seems that Mohill just lists the parents, sponsors and pastor. Another annoying thing with this registry is that the years skip around and many pages don't even have dates on them! You go from 1838 -1839...
