I agree the search facility is very useful, but would caution against the use of the actual charged view facility. I availed of the special Easter discount to request some views. Not one of the baptisms gave sponsors' names. Most of them did not include townlands. The only marriage transcription I a...

Kiernans
Hi.
Don't know if this is any help. I checked Griffith's Valuation for you.
The following appear in Drumeela, all renting from John Lees:
KEIRNAN JOHN
KEIRNAN MARY
KEIRNAN OWEN
KIERNAN PATRICK
In Drummucker, both renting from Luke Whyte, are:
KEIRNAN EDMOND
KEIRNAN JOHN.
Regards
Tom

By the 1880s most, though by no means all, births were registered, so it's more likely than not that your Terence was registered somewhere. Have you considered the surname might have been spelled differently before he settled in New Zealand? I did a search on the Leitrim Heritage Centre Website whic...

GRO Records Room - Imminent Move
In case anyone is planning to either write to or visit the General Register Office Research Records room in Joyce House in Dublin over the next few days - I believe there was a short announcement in the national papers earlier this week that the facility is being relocated over the coming weekend. T...

Mystery solved at last. Leitrim County Library in Ballinamore holds copies of the Tithe Books for Leitrim, sorted into one book per Civil Parish. Though these appear to be paper printouts from microfilm, the Library has added its own index to the start of each book. The missing Tooman townland is ea...

Killenora Cemetery
Can anyone tell me the exact location of Killenora Cemetery? I know it is in Killasnet Parish in Leitrim, but can't pinpoint the exact townland. Any help appreciated.

Townlands of Tawnagh More and Tooman on Tithe Books
I've been unable to find the above 2 townlands on the Tithe Applotment Books for Cloone, although both are in Cloone Civil Parish. Perhaps they were not included. Perhaps they were included under another civil parish? Or were included under other names or as subparts of other townlands? Any leads ap...

I'm not certain of this, but my understanding is that if you look at the Map for the Civil Parish of Drumreilly, Dromahaire Barony, in this Leitrim-Roscommon site, and focus on the townlands around Kilmore, Cornageehan North and Cornaguillagh, this is the general area of the Leitrim area around Dowr...

Mcgurn name
MacLysaght's "Surnames of Ireland" mentions that (Mac) Curreen and Curren are from old Gaelic name MacCorraidhĂn, and that it was mainly found in Leitrim. It is now found mostly as MacGurrin . It also may have become both Curran and Crean in some cases. He also says the South Down name Mac...
