See www.plunkett.net to start.

It started as Blanche, then Blanchet, then irishized to Blanchard, then anglicized to Plunkett.

He was born in the parish of Croghan in 1756. The townland of Knockroe is in this parish. The family emigrated to Belgium where he became a Dominican priest in 1788. He returned to Ireland as a secular priest in 1795, as parish priest of Croghan and then of Roscommon town in 1803. He was appointed bishop in 1814. He died in Versailles on his way to Rome in 1827. Hope this helps in your search.
