Patrick Spellman

I am searching for my Spellman links. Patrick Spellman, my gggrandfather was born in Ireland in 1843 -- that's all that is on his tombstone.<br>He immigrated to Oneida County, New York, and was married to Margaret (Maggie) Carey.<br>They both died approximately 1819 from the Spanish flu epidemic when my Mother was only 5 years old, so I don't have much information about the Spellman's.<br>If this rings any bells with anyone, please contact me via e-mail or by writing me:<br>Elaine Monroe<br>P.O. (I will e-mail this as well)<p>This is a long shot but I have connections to both Careys and Spellmans and was wondering if either of them might turn into a more definite link.<p>To start with, Patrick McCabe (1874 - 1959) of Athleague, Roscommon, was my grandfatherfs father-in-law. His father was Thomas McCabe, his mother was Mary (1840 - 1917). Patrick married Ellen Carey (1873 - 1928). They had 3 daughters, Mary Kate (married John Conboy), Sarah (married James Larkin), and Delia (married Michael Neary). The homeplace was in Clooneen. <br>Ellen (full name Eleanor) was from Farneykelly and her parents were John Carey and Catherine Drudy. Siblings were John, Kate, James & Michael.<p>On the Spellman side, the Larkins originally came from the Ballymoe area and the grave in Ballintober contains this stone:<br>Pray for the soul of <br> CATHERINE SPOLLEN <br> who died the year 1783<br> aged 48 yrs<br> Erected by her husband<br> Michael Lorkin & their sons <br> DOMNICK LORKIN for <br> the use of them & family<br>Spollen is a derivative of Spellman and there is still a Spellman family in Marnellsgrove, the old Larkin homeplace. <p>Please let me know if you spot any connections here. <p>Tony Larkin<p><br>
