The name means 'descendant of Maoléidigh' (armoured chief). In the 16th century, the surname was peculiar to the midlands, especially Westmeath and Offaly, where the family was said to be 'highly respectable'. Earlier, there was a family of that name in Corcumroe, Co. Clare.

I am doing a school projet on my autobiography and one of the subjects we have to talk about is our family tree.<p>I was wondering if there is any Meleadys out there who can help me or tell me a web site to visit.<p>I dont know anybody to begin with in my family tree and i would like to go as far back as possible.<p>Please if anyone can help then please do.
