Re: McGowans/Rogers/McMorrow/Feely
Dear Marie Porter: I am currently researching my my great grandfather and great grandmother. He was John Rodgers and she was Honor McMorrow and we have only just recently discovered that they both came from leitrim. We were always given to believe they came from Ballyshannon. Their son, my grandfather, also called John Rodgers was born in Ballyshannon in 1889 approx. I have discovred that John Sr married Honor McMorrow in Tullaghan, north Co Leitrim in 1872. She was 25 and he was 28. Honors father was called Patrick McMorrow and was a farmer (deceased) and John Rodgers father was called Michael (also deceased) and had been a stonemason. The witnesses to this marriage were Patrick and Elizabeth Rodgers and I would assume that this Patrick was a brother of John. As I live in Dublin Ihave spent some hours in both the National Archives and National Library going through both Parish Records and Census material to determine exactly where Honor and John were born (birth records only start in 1864). It would appear to me from names that keep recurring that my Rodgers also came from around tawyntullan. However, I am still at early stage of research and will be glad to pass on anything I come across.
I have only become interested in this family genealogy stuff in the past 6 months and this is the first time that I have contacted anyone who may be related, albeit distantly!!.
p.s. you will note that I spell Rodgers and not Rogers. I was always given to believe by my mother that the family spelling was with a 'd' although John Rodgers and Honor McMorrows marriage cert shows both.
Will keep you posted
Kind regards
Judith Blair
MALAHIDE, Co Dublin
