Good day,
I have been researching my family name Runions for many years without any sort of direction of origin other than that the family name was from Ireland.
Upon doing a random internet search for the spelling O'Ruanaian I came upon this forum.
O'Ruanaian could have evolved into Roonen, Runian, Runions, Raughneen, Runyan, Runyon, Runnions, Mulroney, Rooney, Rongnion.( and many more spelling variations)
The earliest dates I have are Benjamin Runions born 1746 and he is in Canada before 1783.
If anyone on this forum has seen these names associated with Leitrim or any other part of Ireland, please contact me.
