Roger Conlon/Mary Smith family of Ballinamore, Leitrim

Post by Susan »

Looking for large family (9 or 12 children) that supposedly left Leitrim in 1840s. One story says father, Roger, died in 1845 in famine and mother, Mary Smith Conlon emigrated with children to US, but she died at sea on the way. But 3 daughters marry in Auburn NY in 1843, 1844 and 1845. At least 6 children in Auburn, NY--others eventually in Springfield, MO. Would like parents marriage (and their parents) and baptisms of children, if possible

Known about children:
Thomas, b. c. 1832 Leitrim, m. Ann Mooney 1853, Columbus, OH

Charles, b. c 1838 Leitrim, unmarr, dies in Auburn, NY in 1886

Roger, b. ? Leitrim

Elizabeth, b. ? Leitrim, m. John Heany, Holy Family, Auburn NY 1843

Ann, b. 1822 Leitrim, m. Patrick Heany, Holy Family, Auburn,NY 1844, d. Auburn, 1908

Maria,b. 1837 Leitrim, m. Maurice Murphy, Holy Family, 1855, d. Springfield, MO 1903

Rose, b. 1830 Leitrim, m. Hugh McCartin, Holy Family, 1853, d. Auburn, NY 1886

Catharine, b. ? Leitrim, m. ? Corcoran

Margaret, b. ? Leitrim, m. Michael Byrne, Holy Family, 1844

Susan, my gggrandfather was James McCartin b 1840 in Drumbad, county Lietrim Ireland. Per a distant relative I found that many McCartins were born in this area, near Kiltygerry & they were referred to as the "Kiltygerry McCartins". Some of my ancestors moved to Auburn NY in 1840s or 1850s...Two great sites to ck for info--"Google" Auburn NY 1900-I found a street directory that also lists by surname...it may be part of rootsweb.com, cayuga countyNY...Also try familysearch.org -the Mormon's site-biggest worldwide & I remember seeing a Hugh McCartin/McCartan!! At any rate, this relative feels that they were all related & the land passed down generation to generation...good luck & let me know how you make out!!
