Post by Kevin708sw »

I found my great great great Grandmother Catherine Green in the 1901 census. They are from the townland Rover Upper, parish Kilronan, Barony Boyle, County Roscommon. My great grandmother Catherine Flynn(3) gd on the census married John Joseph Phillips. Anyone else working on this? Let me know

Hi,
I am not working on your family but do have records from my research of Kilronan families. Did you know that the name Glosheen appeared on Irish records for the name Green?
In case you don't have this information on your family, I post it here.
James Glosheen and Catherine McPaden were married 1/19/1852 their witnesses were Michael Gaffney and Catherine Flynn. Their children were:
John born 5/20/1853 godparents-James Glosheen and Brigid Flynn
Michael 8/21/1855-Michael Glosheen and Eleanor McPaden
Catherine 5/10/1857-John Glosheen and Brigid Flynn
Mariam 7/31/1859-Martin and Brigid McPaden
Patrick 3/20/1864-James Cullen and Brigid McPaden
Anna 9/23/1866-Michael McManus and Mgt. Flynn
Margaret 7/31/1870-James Rynn and Maria Glosheen
James 3/16/1872- Martin and Anna Mc Paden
Brigid 12/6/1861-John McPaden and Maria Flynn

Brigid Glosheen married Patrick Flynn of Tawlaght on 5/3/1890

Hope this information helps your research!

Thank you for your post. I appreciate the information. It is very interesting. Do you know if James Glosheen is related to John & Honor Green of Rover Upper? Also is Patrick Flynn the son of James & Margaret of Tawlaght? There was a cousin that lived in the US named John Green that would fit the grandson's age in the 1901 census. Thanks again for your help!

Hi Kevin,
It is difficult to determine how the Glosheen families are related because a number of the years in Kilronan church records are missing. The other Glosheen in upper Rover was an Edward Glosheen married to a member of my family Honor Rynn...Edward was not alive in 1901.....he was a son of a James Glosheen according to his marriage record..2/24/1868

As for Patrick Flynn of Tawlaght..I see a Patrick born on3/5/1865 in Tawlaght to John Flynn and Mariam Flynn-- his godparents were James & Brigid Flynn. John Flynn married Maria Flynn of Upper Rover on 2/27/1862 Their witneses were James Flynn and Brigid Kevany.

Hope this helps! Ann
