My ancestor is Edward King born 1575 who was Bishop of Elphin and is shown in Burke's as the head of the Charlestown King family line. I am trying to establish whether there is a relationship between his line and that of the Kings of King House headed by John King who married Catherine Drury. Edward King's granddaughter, Susanna King, married Andrew Blackburn. Any information or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hello! Wish I could help with your King search. Am afraid it's about two three centuries before my family records begin. My great-grandmother from Leitrim was Anne King, who became Anne Kennedy. They had, I believe, six children, half of whom emigrated to the States by the turn of the nineteenth century. If you have more "contemporary" information on your Kings, please do share.
Kind regards,
Peter Kennedy

King Family
Hello Peter,
Thank you for responding to my query. Just as your family emigrated to the U.S.A, my great grandmother, Maria Nixon Devenish, a descendant of the Kings of Charlestown, came to Australia in 1869. Unfortunately, I do not have any information about later King generations as you requested. If you could post any information you have about your ancestors who left Ireland, that is, names (second christian names can be important), marriages and any dates something might be recognised by myself or other members. Do keep trying and best of luck, Maureen O'Donnell.

Bishop Edward King
Hi,
Lois,
Re your query about the children of Bishop Edward King. "A Genealogical and Heraldic History of the Peerage and Baronetage, The Privy Council and Knightage" 1933 by Sir Bernard Burke and Ashworth P. Burke list the following children to Anne Coxsed -
James born 1610
John of Boyle
Robert living 1638
Charles living 1638
Edward born 1616 died young
Alice died young
Mary died 27/8/1615
Ann married Edward D'Alton
Elizabeth
Martha
and further that by his marriage to Grace Samson he had with other issue a daughter Susanna who married Major Doherty.
My line is from the eldest son James. I assume your King ancestor was the son of John of Boyle and Sarah Conway - Captain John King who emigrated to Massachusetts in 1645 and married Sarah Holton.
