Patrick Byrne of Farneykelly Roscommon emigrated to Australia and was killed in Melbourne in 1940. At that time he had been in NSW 19 years. He was the son of Peter and Bridget Byrne
and was born in 1882.
He had only one child,Mary Kathleen and I have been unable to trace her. She was 14 years old at the time of her father's death.
I realise she possibly married and that is complicating my search for her.
Any hints would be very much appreciated.
Patricia

Note the spelling of Farranykelly townland.
It is in Fuetry Civil parish and Athleague Catholic parish.
Patrick and his family are listed on the 1901 Census:
Farranykelly townland, Fuerty Civil parish, Athlone Barony, County Roscommon.
Byrne Peter(50), Bridget(46)-Mary(21)-Patrick(18)-Lizzie(15)-Christopher(9)-Agatha(6)
Change of occupiers of Farranykelly townland from 1855 to c1920 are listed on LDS film number 867982
The 1855 Griffith's Valuation show Peter Byrne occupied a house, outbuilding and 38 acres of land. This must be the grandfather of Patrick.

Hello John...I had most of the info you so kindly sent me but not the film number for occupiers of land there...thank you for taking the time to answer my post.I have seen Farneykelly spelled many ways but this is the way my mother spelled it.

Hi John and Patricia,
Good to be back at Family History again. John, do you have any advise for how Patricia could start to trace her cousin Mary Kathleen Byrne in Melbourne. Was the Hearld Sun published in 1940? Would there be an obit that would give her a clue to where the child and her mother might have gone? What about marriage records that she could trace Patrick's wife's family?
Regards
Nuala
