The General Register Office is to be re-located from Joyce House, 8/11 Lombard Street East, Dublin 2 to Government Offices, Convent Road, Roscommon with effect from the 11th April 2005. From that date, all communications should be addressed to :-

General Register Office, Government Offices, Convent Road, Roscommon.

i visited this office in roscommon in mid-september and it is no where near ready for researching. i was told they are only able to handle adopted birth information and dont expect to be fully operational for quite a long time yet. what a shame

The GRO has indeed relocated to Roscommon, but the research room has remained in Lombard Street in Dublin. Access to the Birth, Marriage & Death indices and photocopies of entries therein, continues as always. Contact with Roscommon is only necessary when actual certificates for events outside Dublin are required. Family history research remains undisturbed - for now!
