I am looking for information about and connections with my mother Etheldreda Massey (nee Beirne) and grandparents Thomas Beirne and Margaret Beirne (nee Priest).
My grandmother was born around 1885 in or around Boyle and died in New York in 1957. I believe she married a widower Beirne with 3 or 4 grown-up children around 1913 and had 4 children: Una (later married John Brennan - before or after moving to Brooklyn New York - where my grandmother joined her); Peggy (who later married Walter Aznolaites and died recently in Guildford, England); John James; and Dan (who I believe died young possibly in infancy). When her husband died she married my grandfather Thomas Beirne (who may have been the brother of her deceased husband) with whom she had 4 children: Nora (born November 1918, married Herby Lake in Suffolk in 1945 and moved to Logansport Indiana where she died in April 1992); Elizabeth (born 1920, married Bernard Mott in London, and died in Crawley, Sussex in 1992); Thomas (born 1922 and died aged 18 months); and my mother Etheldreda (who married Daniel Joseph Massey in Brighton in 1948 and died in Brighton in 1998). My grandmother was a midwife. Like her sisters Betty and Nora my mother spent some time at a convent or convents in Ballymote and/or Ballaghadereen.
