Healy from Ballyformoyle Roscommon
Looking for any information on a Joseph Healy (Healey) born ~1860, any siblings and his parents. Mother's name is Mary. Per 1901 census he lived in Ballyformoyle, Ardcarn, Boyle, Roscommon and was a farmer. Where would best place to search for Baptism, Marriage and Death Certificates for this region between 1825-1920?

In writing this post I assume you do not live in Ireland. (Ed Gaffney’s earlier post on this subject includes some of the data below).
There is a large amount of readily accessible information available to help in your Healy research.
• The LDS British Isles Vital Records CD list three baptisms/births for your family.
• LDS film 867945 will show change of occupiers of land in Ballyformoyle townland from 1858 to c1920+
• LDS film 256565 lists the 1834 Tithe Applotment records for Ballyformoyle townland.
• LDS film 2146866 Item 1 lists the 1911 Census records for Ballyformoyle townland.
• LDS film 850476 item 1 lists the 1901 Census records for Ballyformoyle townland.
• Ballyformoyle townland is in Ardcarn Civil parish. For location of Ballyformoyle townland see
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/LR_maps.html
• Ballyformoyle townland is in Keadew Registrar’s District. See the Civil birth registration for Bridget Jane Healy below. If you check the LDS film it will show the birth townland and father’s occupation.
• Ballyformoyle townland is in Ardcarne/Tumna (now Cootehall) Catholic parish. For parochial records 1843 - 1881, see LDS film 989746 items 1-4.
• From my records there is a likely wedding recorded in Ardcarn/Tumna Catholic parish. 27 Feb 1854, Martin Healy married Mary Calahan. For names of witnesses see LDS film 989746
The LDS British Isles Vital records CD lists three likely births:
HEALY, Josephum, Male
Christening Date: 25 Dec 1857. Recorded in: Ardcarn and tuamna,
Roscommon, Ireland. Collection: Roman Catholic
Father: Mauritii HEALY - Mother: Mariae CALAGHAN
Source: FHL Film 989746 Dates: 1843 - 1861
HEALY, Margarittam Gender: Female
Christening Date: 4 Nov 1859 Recorded in: Ardcarn and tuamna,
Roscommon, Ireland Collection: Roman Catholic
Father: Mauritii HEALY Mother: Mariae CALAHAN
Source: FHL Film 989746 Dates: 1843 – 1861
(note: I searched the LDS CD for “Martin Healy” and it found Mauritii HEALY.)
HEALY, Bridget Jane Gender: Female
Civil birth register page 124, see LDS film 101183.
Born 16 Jan 1869
Birth registered in Keadew Registrar’s District.
Father: Maurice HEALY Mother: Mariae CALLAGHAN
In this instance I believe that Maurice and Martin are the same given name. Be flexible about the spelling of names and places. Remember clerks wrote down what they heard, not what they saw. At Griffith’s Valuation of County Roscommon there were 867 “Martin” given names; nine Maurice and nil Morris given names.
Griffith’s Valuation (1858) for Ballyformoyle townland lists
Healy Maurice and Healy Patrick junior as joint occupiers of
31 acres with a land valuation of £4 15 shillings.
See http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/GRIFFITH/
1901 and 1911 Censuses of County Roscommon.
The more important details of the individuals (over 100,000 in 21,339 households) who lived in County Roscommon at the time of the 1901 Census have been extracted by Roger McDonnell of the USA and his volunteers. The information is available for searching on the Internet at www.leitrim-roscommon.com/ .
Forms filled in by the head of each household, giving the names of all persons in that household on census night (members of each family and their visitors, servants, etc., who slept or abode in the house on the night of 31 March 1901). The categories of data completed by the head of household on Form A were as follows:
• Given name of head of household.
• Surname of head of household.
• Names of other persons who slept in the house.
• Relationship to head of household.
• Religion
• Education (Read & write, read only, cannot read)
• Age
• ancestor_gender
• Rank, profession or occupation
• Marital Status
• Country/county of birth
• Ability to speak Irish or English
• Whether Deaf, Dumb, Blind or imbecile.
Other forms were filled in by the official taking the census, summarising the returns for that townland or street. These returns record details of the houses; giving number of rooms, outhouses, windows and the type of roof.

Thanks for the detailed info. Very helpful. I am actually interested in details on Patrick Healy (b. 1861), Joseph's brother. Patrick's 1885 marriage cert in Vermont has father listed as Maurice Healy and Mary O'Brien. I think Patrick emmigrated to US in 1880 and his occupation was a miner. I have nothing besides the marriage cert that documents O'Brien, so it's possible it was Callaghan. Any additional info would be greatly appreciated as I am going to be in Roscommon this summer (I do not have access to the LDS CD, and I couldn't get a match on the LDS websites). Searches on Ancestry.com yielded nothing.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.
I pulled out Patrick Healy's 1885 marriage certificate and in reviewing the father's name, it could easily be "Manus" Healy (cursive writing and all...) It definietly is Mary O'Brien. Patrick was 25 in 1885. Any record of a Patrick Healy being born in Skreen Co . Sligo around 1860 to Manus Healy and Mary O'Brien? The records you sent began in 1866. I hope this is my last question, otherwise I'll break down and buy the LDS CD. Many thanks for your help as you have saved me a trip to Cooteshall I think.
