The Roscommon Heritage Society has the register for the RC Parish of Elphin from the mid 1800's. Is it also available in Dublin?
I have a cousin who is an elderly Irish lady in Mayo who would like to get her grandfather's baptismal record, but has been hoping there was another way to get it besides the Hertiage Society.
Thanks for any help on this question.
Best wishes,
Joan Morris

All surviving pre-1880 Irish Catholic baptism and marriage records have been microfilmed and depending on the local Bishop are available worldwide on microfilm at major Public libraries and FHL Family History Centres.
The National Library in Dublin will allow you to view their copy of the County Roscommon pre -1880 Catholic baptisms and marriages microfilms. It seems strange that the microfilms can be viewed in Dublin but not at Public libraries in County Roscommon.
According to “Tracing your Irish Ancestors”, second edition, page 330, by John Grenham (ISBN 0-8063-1617-9) (Library of Congress card number 92-74687),
The National Library Ireland in Dublin has microfilm copies of Elphin Catholic parochial records as listed below:
Baptisms 1807 to 1880 with some gaps. Film # Pos 4609 and 4610
Marriages 1807 to 1880 with some gaps.
I suggest your elderly Irish cousin in Mayo contact the Elphin Parish priest and ask him to look at his spreadsheet copy of the baptismal records prepared by the Heritage Centre.
Elphin Catholic parochial records are not available for access at LDS Family History Libraries.
