Leitrim Geneology Center

Post by MarkCT »

Just wondering if anyone has shelled out the $400 for the geneology report that the Leitrim Geneology Center provides. I am interested in the quality and quantity of the information they provide.

I did use them for initial investigations into my family. They charged €60, probably about $80, for a two page document that listed my great-grandfather and his immediate family. Though the information is taken from the Parish Records, what I got did not even include the names of baptismal sponsors. Additionally, although I have since viewed the records myself, I have found no trace of one of the children they assigned to my great-grandfather. And, with another, I am not at all sure they haven't made a mistake but I need to check the microfilm again. The bulk of their records are, as far as I know, transcribed from Parish Registers. The transcription was done by people who were not, in the main, professional transcribers. As such, there must be some doubt over the accuracy. For example, they managed to come up with a lady named Nabora Doyle. It should have been Honora.
So, as I say, I have some doubts about the accuracy of what they might have to offer.

Yeah, I was actually looking through Mohill Parish records today dating back to about 1840. I can't believe how difficult they are to decipher. Thanks for the information! For $400 they better provide a time machine! :D
