Finan/Dockery/Diviney/Forde/[O']Connell/Mongan

Post by fionnchu »

Fellow researchers, I've only now joined, but I do thank Linda Kuhn, Tom Voyles, and a couple of others who have responded to and amplified my knowledge of my own genealogy.

While I have traced back (pre-L-R list!) via my own first-hand and second-hand PRO, Griffiths, census, and Land Valuation archival investigations--supplemented and confirmed by what's been listed by Tom Voyles about the Finans northeasterly from Loughglynn village, I have other (so far) dead-ends that I wanted to post here.

So far, my summary goes back from my end-point: Anna Carmel Finan (b. 15 Aug. 1936, 1 Devon Park, Salthill, Galway city) to Annie Diviney (b. 6 Aug. 1901, Scardaun West, near Ballindine, Co. Mayo. Parents: Andrew "Deviny" Diviney b. ca. 1860--at Scardaun West; Margaret [O']Connell, b. ca. 1869; m. 15 July 1891.). Earlier: Thaddeus "Divany" Diviney, b. 1807-d. 9 Oct. 1894, m. Bridget Mongan, b. ca. 1837, living in 1901). Divineys worked land also at Carrowconor and Drummin West t/l. Relatives of Thaddeus: Martin "Divany", Andrew "Diviny" listed in Griffith's; Thaddeus as both "Diviny" and "Divany." Crossboyne parish, Co. Mayo, Clanmorris barony, south of Claremorris town. Thaddeus "Divany" listed at Scardaun West in 1797 Tithe Appt.

Any more info on Diviny/Divany/Diviney/Deviny of Crossboyne Parish, Co. Mayo appreciated. I have exhausted my trail back/laterally.

Here are my 4 dead-ends:

1a) Patrick Dockery (b. ca. 1823-d. after 1901) m. Cecelia Forde (b. ca. 1825; d. before 1901) ca. 1855. Breedogue-Ballinmeen parish, Co. Roscommon. Callow farmer, land in Cloonsheever. No leads backwards or laterally on Fordes. [But Fordes listed 1901 census at Leitrim & Cloonfinglass t/l, not far from Cloonsheever.]

Dockery "A": Patrick may be related to Peter & Edmund of Cloonsheever (listed Griffiths).

1b) Ellen Dockery (b. ca. 1819-d. 25 April 1869 at Ballyglass East, L'glynn) m. ca. 1849 Dominick Finan ("Finen", farmer) at Tibohine parish. B. ca. 1807, d. 10 Aug. 1867 at B'glass E.

Dockery "B" : no leads backwards.

There are in my chain two links to Dockerys--I cannot tell if Ellen and Patrick are themselves related except indirectly by their marriages to Dominick Finan who m. Ellen D. & Patrick D. who married Cecelia Forde.

2) Bridget Mongan (b. ca. 1837) m. (before 1860?)Thaddeus "Divany" (1807-94) at Crossboyne parish. Seems odd 30-year spousal difference, but possible given farmers waiting to inherit--T's father presumably T Sr. listed in 1797.)

No leads laterally/back on Mongans. [But Mongans listed 1901 nearby Esker North, Esker South, Ballindine t/ls.--including one Bridget Mongan aged 93, so b. ca. 1807. Also, Mongan= common surname of local Travellers, E. Mayo/N. Roscommon]

3) Margaret Connell (as listed PRO; b. ca. 1869-d. after 1910 perhaps as late as 1933) m. Andrew "Deviny" 15 July 1891. May be "O' Connell" according to another researcher. Living at Scardaun West 1901 w/ her mother Bridget Mongan (b. ca. 1837).

No leads either on O'Connell or Connell. Neither name common to Roscommon/Mayo [but cf. more local "Connellan."]

Thanks for any advice that hasn't already been posted on this list--I've done the L-R searches for these surnames already.
