Leitrim Kerrigans

Post by welshman »

My Great Grandfather was Hugh Kerrigan and his wife was Anne Clancy.
From my research on the Mormons website I have found the following IGI Individual Records.

They had 5 children.
Patrick b.24th April 1871 in Letrim batch number(C014060)
Mary b.25th Sept.1873 in Leitrim (C701539) source call number (0255884)
Hugh (my grand father) b.28th August 1875 in Leitrim (C397075)
Daniel b.6th February 1878 in Laurun (C011946)
John b.4th May 1879 in Mullenaleck (C007218)

Can anyone throw any light on any of these relations please and where my Great Grandparents (Hugh and Anne Kerrigan nee Clancy) might have lived or married?

Many thanks in anticipation

From the LDS British Isles Vital Records Index set of CDs (BIVRI).

KERRIGAN, Hugh Birth
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 28 Aug 1875 Birthplace: Kinlough, Leit, Ire
Recorded in: Leitrim, Ireland
Collection: Civil Registration
Father: Hugh KERRIGAN
Mother: Anne CLANCY
Source: FHL Film 255935 Dates: 1875 – 1875

Note that records may be entered in either and/or both the IGI and BIVRI.

!8, Patrick above means that Patrick’s birth is registered on Page 18 of the Kinlough Civil birth register for 1871. There are 104 townlands in Kinlough Registrar’s District.

If you visit a major public library or LDS Family History Centre you can view the above LDS film which is filmed copy of the original register. The entry in the register will show the townland of birth and occupation of the father.

Once you know the townland it is easy to trace occupiers of the land from 1854 to c1920 and to find family details on the 1901 Census on this website.

I found this record in the 1901 census data base. It appears to be your family. Looks like there was another son born in 1881.
The townland is Mullanaleck.

Many thanks John and Roger for the useful info leads.
I will indeed follow your suggestion for the way forward John.
I have been aware of the link Roger has given for some time now but having found that my GreatGrandparents actually had 5 children with reference numbers I had put the reference to Bernard on the back burner.
Names of parents appear to be right but is this a coincidence I wonder?
I think I remember way back putting Bernard into the search engines/websites with no luck but will try again once I follow up on John's very useful leads.
Thanks again guys.
