Free County Leitrim and Roscommon source material online

Post by John Hunter »

Free County Leitrim and County Roscommon source material available online.

Townland database:
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/TOWNLAND/town.html

Griffith’s Valuation c1854 ( a census substitute):
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/GRIFFITH/ and also

http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith- ... nameSearch

1901 Census:
http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/ (note the “Parish” is the Civil parish, not the Catholic parish).

1911 Census:
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ (enter the District Electoral Division “DED” from “Index2” below to search adjoining areas)

To find the Catholic parish and DED for all townlands in County Roscommon visit:
http://www.roscommonhistory.ie/People/J ... Index2.pdf

For Irish research definitions visit:
http://www.roscommonhistory.ie/People/J ... /Notes.pdf

For LDS records visit www.familysearch.org

Research in County Roscommon is very very expensive. I suggest you don’t pay for Irish research until you understand how the system operates.

Another web site for searching for Ancestors

Post by mickjoe »

Hi John, Have you ever been on this web site.......

http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsea ... html#start

I was able to find around 40 of my ancestors on it in the past few months.
I found it easier to work through than the usual "Family Search " web site.

And it is Totally FREE to use. Which is a bonus.
