Keaveny, Irish form and varient spellings?

Post by Leo L. Flynn »

Can anyone supply the Irish form of the surname Keaveny, common in North Leitrim. I would also be interested in learning varient forms in Irish and English.

I have not come across that spelling in my family tree but that does not mean it is not an actual existing surname.

I would also be interested in learning varient forms in Irish and English.: The Gaelic translation of Keaveny is Geibheannaigh: The name Keaveny is a more modern variant of the root name O'Kevane. The surname is from the Gaelic "CAOIVEAION", which means "a gentle person". I have found that the previous translation of Keaveny as Geigheannaigh is also correct
