Leitrim Books

Post by Gail Moran »

There are three books available with information on Co. Leitrim. I found them very interesting.
The first is "Leitrim and the Great Hunger" by Gerard MacAtasney, 1997. It was published by the Carrick on Shannon Historical Society. The book has many facts, figures and names from those terrible days. The second is "Sliabh an Iarainn Slopes" by Fr. Dan Gallogly 1991, and was self published. This one I purchased at the Leitrim Heritage Center. It is a treasure. The third is "The Face of Time" by Leland Lewis Duncan. The text in the book was written by Liam Kelly. It contains many photos from 1862-1923.It was published by Lilliput Press in 1995.These books are valuable resources for understanding the world of our ancestors in Leitrim.

Proinnsios O Duigneain has written an excellent series of books called the "North Leitrim History Series." Number one in the series is "North Leitrim in Famine Times: 1840-1850." Number Two is North Leitrim in Land League Times: 1880-1884." Number Three is "North Leitrim: The Land War and the Fall of Parnell." I bought them all in Manorhamilton in 1994. I doubt they are available in the US, but I believe you can order them by mail. Contact Proinnsios at Drumlin Publications, Nure, Manorhamilton, Co. Leitrim. The number of Drumlin Publications is (072)55237. All titles in the series are priced lower than IR 5.00.
