Re: Ganley in Columbia County New York
I'm researching the FLYNN (Michael)surname in Hudson, NY for the period 1848 to 1870. I've looked in some limited census records for the town that I have. Ganley name isn't listed but you should make an extensive search. New York state performed their own census between the U.S. Census years. Do you know where the Ganley's came from in Ireland? If you do, I'd appreciate knowing as I don't know where my FLYNN came from. He was a bricklayer and probably went there for work. Keep in touch. Mary L. Casey

Leitrim, Ireland. I have a Mary Elizabeth GANLEY, b. 30 Mar 1905, who was married to John James NOLAN in NY, date unknown. They lived in Yonkers, NY for many years and then moved to Red Bank, NJ. She died on 24 Dec 1981 and is buried in New Rochelle, NY. I know this is not in your time period, but thought there might be some connection. Email me if you need more info.
Lorrie
mikusfam@aol.com

Thank-You
I'm curios whether ther might be a connection between your Ganley's and the Ganley Co. established in RI in 19??. My grandmother who emmigrated from Leitrim in the 1920's was employed there for many years. They manufactured Religious Goods and were most devotedly Irish/ Catholic by history. Though I cannot remember the owners given names, I do recall their dedication to their Irish emmigrant workers and their families. Their Irish heritage was evident and based on the closeness of my grandmothers relationship with them it would be hard not to think they were from Leitrim.

Re: Ganley's in Ireland
Ganley's did come from Ireland Co lietrim, some others from drumbane Ballyhauis Co Mayo where there is an old Ganley homestead (small holding) they go back to 1812, Ganley's in a very small place called Derry Wade Co roscommon that go back to 1850's, all these facts are from the internet, my grand father came from Ireland in the late 1800's but I cannot trace him back and will have't wait for the 2001 census to find out more, my father was born in Ancoats Manchester 1904 but I hit a brick wall there.
nice to meet you Ted Ganley Prestwich Manchester.

I, too, have a mysterious New York Ganley ancestor. My G-G-Grandmother was Catherine Ganley. She might be from the Bronx area, maybe not. Born there? Who knows. Supposedly a "native of New York" according to her obit. From my best guess, she was born in the late 1830s, married John David Doyle in New York, and they settled in Oakland, CA in 1855. This is truly one of my research mysteries. Good luck to you and let me know if you have any success.
