Kelly. He was one of 3 children of Michael Joseph Kelly and Anne Smith. Anne Smith was the maid in the Kelly family. After that marriage, they had to flee to NY. They returned to Ballinlough after several years. That was where my grandfather met and married Margo Greene, my grandmother. Grandfather had two brothers: James and Patrick. I have one other possibility for information. I will check it and get back to you. Thank you for your kindness. Sr. Margaret

Sr. Margaret
I checked another source: Michael Joseph Kelly and Anne Smith may have had their home in Williamstown, Galway. My grandfather, Michael Joseph was born in Brookly, NY. The other two children, James and Patrick were born in Ireland, after the Kellys returned to Ballinlough, Roscommon. It was probably in Ballinlough, that the eldest son, Michael Joseph, married Margo Greene. Sr. Margaret

Of the townland Carrick. We had at least one Kelly connection, and I think a Greene. South, a bit from Carrick/Balinlough is a place called Garranlan. that's near the old Catholic church/chapel Kiltullagh, and a grand old man named Jack Kelley told me old stories in 1988. He's died since, but locals swear he was a fountain of local lore. Today there is a Catholic church in Ballinlough, I think the P.P. is named Ball, but it is a fairly new church, and I doubt if the people you are researching would have gone to mass there. Still, Fr. Ball may have records of Kiltullagh, or any other are R.C. church that your relatives frequented. (And, he may not). All of the above is off the top of my mind without checking sources. If any of this interests you & you'd like to ask questions, I'd be happy to dig into my sources and see if I have further info.
:Brian McCarthy

This ancestor search is becoming more exciting. I did hear that the Greenes were buried in the Garranlahan cemetery. I am not sure what a townland is. Does that mean that my ancestors lived in a smaller place than Ballinlough? Could it be Grange? Yes, I am very interested in what you may be able to find out for me, and in advance I thank you sincerely. Sr. Margaret
