Re: McGreevy Family Reunion, Moylurg, Rosc. 2000
I'm a McGreivey, not a McGreevy. No one in the family is quite sure how it came to be spelled this way, but somehow it is...
I know very little about my family's origins in Ireland--just that my immigrant ancestor's name was also John McGreivey (though I'm not sure of how he spelled it), and that he left Ireland (Cork? Antrim? Down? I don't know for sure) about 1848-1850 for Canada. His son or grandson (also I think named John) moved from Canada to Glens Falls, NY -- I suppose after the US Civil War. Part of the family seems to have stayed in Canada, because I've come across at least one McGreivey (with my spelling) in the Ottawa area...
I find almost no references in books on Irish families, to McGreiveys/McGreevys/(etc.--of any spelling). WHat's the history of the name, and are we all related?
If anyone has any info, please post it or feel free to email me at mcgreivey@hotmail.com.
Thanks
