Although I
cannot answer your specific question regarding the
mother's name, I can tell you that I have strong
belief that the Buckhill Finns are related to my
Lisduff Finns. Researching back, I have found
data that strongly suggests one or more of my
great grandfather's siblings took up residence in
the townland of Buckhill. This would mean that
there is a good possibility that your Honora Finn
is related to my Lisduff Finns. No document "proof"
as yet, but I am working on it.
It shouldn't be too hard for us to acquire some
information on the baptism of Patrick Higgins. A
logical guess would be that his birth would have
been somewhere close to 1840. My church record
does not give the date, however the GRO just might
have his age listed (if we're lucky). We could
start researching the church records in the area
and see if his baptism shows up.
I just did a search of the Griffiths database and
there are a few good leads that come up if you look
up the surname Higgins in Leitrim, Co. Roscommon.
It would appear that the Father (John) is listed
in the database. There are two Johns listed, and
one of them has his father's name listed (Carby).
While vacationing in Ireland in 1996, I visited
with my Finn relatives in the townlands of Lisduff
and Cloonfad and was treated to many stories regarding
the Buckhill Finns. My relatives speak of them as
not being related, but I find this very hard to
believe, especially in light of my research which
appears to put some of my Finns in the Buckhill area.
Please stay in touch, as I would like to persue
this Finn connection with you.

Ed Finn

efinn@thecore.com
