Genealogy research in Roscommon

Post by Noelene Goodwin »

Having just spent a few days in Roscommon search for info on ancestors,I wonder if someone can help me. My ancestor was Bridget Keavy born around 1829 and Roman Catholic. She was transported to Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania) May 1851 for stealing ducks. Report in Roscommon Journal records, "Bridget Keavy was indicted for stealing ducks from John Kean of Faraher The information was wrong and the court desired the jury to acquit the prisoner. She was arraigned for stealing four ducks fromConnor Greavy. William Grey a policeman said he saw the prisioner in the evening coming from Faraher she had a bulky appearance and seizing her found the ducks. She was found guilty."<p>Are there any suggestions from people in the Roscommon area for further research? With thanks Noelene
