Mary Ellen Morris was born March 1872 in Roscommon to Edward Morris and Catherine Flannagan. It is said that she was from an area near the headwaters of the Shannon River. Her family is said to have owned a (general) store on their property. Mary Ellen Morris left Ireland around 1890 and settled for a while in Central Falls, Rhode Island. She married Edmund Barrett in Central Falls on August 29, 1895 and marriage was witnessed by Thomas J. Egan and Jane Flannagan. She later moved to Elizabeth, New Jersey and later back to Central Falls where she died September 4, 1929. Mary Ellen Morris is known to have traveled back to Ireland with her 2 sons--Arthur Joseph Barrett and Walter Barrett around 1910. It is thought that they stayed about 2 years. Mary Morris' family never left Ireland and remain there today. It has been reported but not documented that one of Mary Morris' relatives married a relative of Rose Kennedy's. Whether this is true or not is irrelevant. Any clues may help in finding her family. If anyone can help in any way, it would be greatly appreciated. Any help locating a certain parish or townland, any information on a country store, etc. would be so helpful.
