Hi, Brian McGowan
This is to reply to your postings of last July, I am not sure if you are still reading the messages on the bulletin board. My father, Francis Joseph (Frank) McGowan emigrated from Gubacreeny, Kinlough, Co. Leitrim, with his brother, John. They arrived in the middle of a blizzard in February 1948. They were sponsored by their aunt who had a dairy out on Long Island. Their brother, Michael McGowan, had three children, the eldest of whom is a physician in England. My father was a carpenter and general contractor in New York for years, his brother, John, was a painter. I believe that we are cousins. If you would like to learn more about our family, I would be happy to write again.
Thanks, Anna McGowan

I am afraid that I do not recognize the place name, Carrickcreavy. Is it in north or south Leitrim? Kinlough, which is where our branch of the family lived, is in north Leitrim between Bundoran and Sligo, right on the shores of Lough Melvin. As far as I know, my father and his broterh were the first to enigrate and they arrived in New York in 1948. I cannot remember him speaking about an Aunt Rose so I think that we are probably different McGowans.
Good luck with your search.
Anna
