The search is by name, and sometimes the returns are pages of info including names, dates, places, courts, crime, sentence, family members sent, on what ship out of and into which port and document references. <p>

: Seeking any information on convicts transported to Australia from Roscommon goal.. Descendants, families who went out to their convicts relations on government tickets, stories that have been handed down through families, etc.,<p>A relative of mine, born in Roscommon in 1908, wrote memoirs of his life which include a story of distint relatives he met in Western Australia while serving in the US military in WWII. The story goes that four O'Connor brothers named Michael, James, Martin and Owen owned lands between Ballintubber and Tulsk c. 1750. Martin was arrested in Ballintubber for protesting the appropriation of those lands. He was sent into exile on a penal colony then known as Van Diemen's land, now Tasmania, where he lived for 18 years. He was ultimately freed and settled in Western Australia, where his son Edward supposedly became the Governor. My relative met descendants of Edward, who told him the story. Cork Ireland Indent of the ship "Diamond" sailed Cork 29 Nov 1837 arrived N.S.W. 1838.<br>Convict number 38 / 146. single .Roman Catholic. reads. age 22. native place Co. Roscommon Ireland. House servant .Offence Stealing money 21 October 1837.Sentence 7 years. No prior convictions. height 5'3" complection, ruddy a little pock pitted and freckled. hair brown. eyes gray. nose a little cocked small scar on left side of forehead.<br>Certificate of Freedom 21 November 1841. Catherine Connolly wife of John Wedge as per ship "Andremeda" arrived February 1830. As yet no marriage found between John Wedge & Catherine Connolly.However Marriage 462 vol 90 John Welsh and Catherine Connolly.Died soon after.<br>Marriage Registered in New South Wales.No 287 Vol 94. Catherine Connolly a member of the Catholic Church & James Whiteside a member of the English Church Joined in wed lock on 20 August 1844 at St Michae's Roman Catholic Church Bathurst by Fr. MO'Reilly witnessed Paul Wiltshire & Mary Fitzpatrick both parties signed register.<br>There were six children born to James and Catherine Whiteside:<br>JOSEPH b. 30 May 1845 O’Connel Plains Bathurst N.S.W.died 11 April 1893 Thistle Street Bendigo Victoria AustraliaSpouse Mary Anne Graham<br>ELIZABETH b. 25 Aug 1846 Fish River Bathurst d. 1931 Spouse Charles Forrest.<br>JAMES JOSEPH b. 2 May 1848 Bathurst N.S.W.d.6 Jan 1890 Melbourne Victoria Spouse Mary Alice Martin (My Husband's G G grandfather)<br>ANNE (Annie) b.1850 Adelaide S.A. d. 1915 Geelong Victoria.Spouse Herbert John Dupe<br>CATHERINE Adelaide possibly died as infant Apears on Death Registration of Father.<br>CATHERINE b. 1855 Adelaide d. 1955 <br>Deaths Registered in the district of Adelaide No ---3025 <br>4 September 1855. Catherine Whiteside Female aged 34 years <br>I cannot find any details of her life before arriving in Australia.
