Re: kelley
I have often considered Ellen Kelley Shillington in McHenry County Illinois because my Kelley family was there at the same time living in Hartland Township. My GGrandfather was Thomas Gordon Kelley b. abt 1830, who married Annie Corcoran in Baltimore, MD in 1856, both reportedly from Co Roscommon. Thomas had a brother, John Gordon Kelley b. abt 1833 who married Sarah Coyne in McHenry Co in 1860. They had to have left Maryland between 1857 & 1860 because they show up on the 1860 census in Illinois. Thomas named his children Mary Ann, Catherine, Elizabeth, Thomas John, Ellen, Rebecca Francis, William James, Edward, and Julia. The story passed down tells that Thomas and John came to the US with a sister between 1842-1850. They worked to brink their widowed mother later along with Annie Corcoran and her mother. I continue to wonder if your Ellen is connected to my Thomas & John Kelley.
: : searching for ellen (eleanor) kelley born in co. roscommon in 1841. immigrated to marengo, Il prior to 1861. married james shillington.
: I have more information on the following family that has a Ellen with her family:
: James Kelly/Kelley
: Mary, wife
: Edward,18
: John,2
: Anne,12
: catherine,14
: Eliza,10
: ELLEN,7 (born 1841)
: Mary,20.
: All came together as a unit to US in March 1848.More information on James and his holdings in Kilglass Parish, Co. I have a James and Mary Kelly as Godparents
to my g-grandfather in l839.... just a thought -
as many stayed in England just long enough to save
the fare to the U.S.
