Hi, <br>I am trying to trace my roots to Ireland.<br>My relatives settled on the Gaspe coast in Eastern Quebec (Canada)<br>I have traced my family back to Laurence Rooney who was married to Margaret Haffey.<br>This is in about 1780.Any info before this would be appreciated.<p>Thanks , Richard

This may give you a clue.<p>For example. he says that Rooney's can be found in all provinces except Munster and that it originated in Co. Down; although some in Connacht were an abbreviation of Mulrooney.<p>For Haffey, he says it's related to Haughey but was called Haffey in Co. Armagh.<p>We know that there was a lot of emigration from Ulster in the 1700s; more than from the other provinces. This may be the case with your ancestors.<p>All of this is just a guess but it might help as might the Ulster-American Folk Park in Omagh, Co. Tyrone where there is a very good library.<p>
