I'm searching for any information on the Croals of Leitrim. My grandfather John Croal (Crowell)
came to America in the 1920s. He married Mary Keaney of Leitrim in the USA. His family was originally from Rossinver or Kiltyclogher.
I am interested in ANY information on the Croals or Keaneys. In particular, I'm looking for information
on where the Croals are originally from. I have been told various stories by people that Croal is not really
an Irish surname and that it is originally English or Scottish or Dutch. Again, any information would be greatly appreciated!!!
Thank you!

With more information, I can ask around the family. My immediate branch of Keaneys is from Manorhamilton in Leitrim. If you look back for older Keaney posts to this bulletin board, you'll find information from Michael Keany, who has done much more research than I have about Keaney family history. With more information, I might be able to help you, but Michael would be a better source. I'm afraid I won't be much help about the Croals, sorry!
:) Maura Keaney
Here's some additional information
on the Keany/Keaney dynasty. My grandmother Mary Anne Keany
came to the US around 1928. I know that she had the following siblings:
Joseph, Michael, Susan, who remained in Ireland (I believe Michael is still
living in Leitrim), as well as brothers John and Patrick
who came to the US and lived in the New York area. My grandmother lived in
the Bronx until her death in 1967. Any connections? Thank You!
