Mary Flynn of county leithrim.
Re: Mary Flynn of county leitrim.
my gg grandmother was catherine Flynn/Flinn from Co Leitrim. My research shows that she was baptised on the 23/01/1836 in the parish of killanummery. Her siblings were Mary baptised 12/06/1836,Michael,05/10/1838 and Bridget ?/02/1841. Her parents were Michael Flynn and Elizabeth Conlon married in Killanummery Parish 08/02/1833. The fact that the first girl child is called Mary and not after her mother would indicate that her father Michael might indicate that he was first born with the right to the naming tradition thus he called his first daughter after his own mother - Mary Flynn. So there is a Mary Flynn in Leitrim rounf about the period which concerns your Mary Flynn. The Tithe Books of 1833 show that the only Michael Flynn in the parish of Killanummery was on a farm in Garvagh Glebe - interestingly enough only a few miles away there is a family called Conlan. Maybe your Flynns, who are of the same era, come from the same area and may even be realted. I hope this gives you a lead. I know how it feels!
