McWilliams or MacWilliams of Roscommon

Post by Sheila Hogg »

A chairde:
Does anyone have any information at all about this family in or around Roscommon? Or other knowledge of their forbears in the U.S. (from a Roscommon base)? My paternal grandmother had these ties and I would like to know more about the birthplace and the family in general. Thanks for any leads/replies. I wish I had more to go on!
Go raibh maith agaibh, Sheila Hogg

This surname is rooted in the first name of an older time. McWilliams or MacWiliiiams came from a William somewhere on your tree and means 'son of the first William'. At least you know the first name of a root on the tree.
