John McCartan or John McCarten

Post by Matthew McCarthy »

I am seeking any family information about the ancestors of John McCartan who was my great-grandfather. He was born in the Mohill District of Co. Leitrim and was baptized on November 24, 1846. His parents were Patrick McCartan and Catherine Connelly. He emigrated from Ireland in 1887.<br>

They were born in the 1830's. Their children were baptized in the Gortleteragh catholic parish in Cornageeha or Mohill. I just recently found out that the name McCarten was changed to McCarthy in the states. My greatgrandmother was Julia McCarthy. Peter and Bridget had several kids; John, Patrick, Julia, Anna, Tom, and Peter and Bridget. Does anything sound familiar? Debby
