Leitrim Roots-McPadden, Gallagher, Gilroy, Waters

Post by Michael Waters »

Looking for information on my great-grandparents, all from Leitrim: (1) Hugh McPadden (b.1855), son of Stephen McPadden, (2) Ellen (Gallagher) McPadden (b.1857), daughter of Peter Gallagher, (3) James Waters, son of John Waters and (4) Alice (Gilroy) Waters (b. 1846). In particular, there was an Ellen Gallagher born to a Peter Gallagher and Mary McTernan in Killargue Parish in 1857- I'm trying to confirm that this was my great-grandmother. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Catherine had a brother Hugh who died in 1909 in Geneva NY. If this looks familiar let me know. I have more.

I know that Hugh had a brother James, but I don't know anything about him. (Mary McPadden and Ann McPadden are other potential siblings.) I don't think that our dates work together, but does anything else look familiar?

Her siblings besides Hugh were ANNIE, BRIDGET.MARY, ELLEN, ELIZABETH and MARY. They all came to Rochester, N.Y. There was also a Miles McPadden with them but I don't know his relationship yet.
: : Hi John,
Unfortunately I do not, and there were 5 Peter Gallaghers listed in Griffiths for Killargue, so
it would be tough to speculate unless I dig up more information.
. : : :
: : : : Looking for information on my great-grandparents, all from Leitrim: (1) Hugh McPadden (b.1855), son of Stephen McPadden, (2) Ellen (Gallagher) McPadden (b.1857), daughter of Peter Gallagher, (3) James Waters, son of John Waters and (4) Alice (Gilroy) Waters (b. 1846). Hi Michael, I re-read your original posting today and realized that I had neglected to include in my previous reply a suggestion that you not rule out the possibility that some of your ancestors may have come from Innismagrath Parish which adjoins Killargue parish and includes Drumkeeran and contains all of the surnames you have mentioned.

My dad's name is Glenn Stephen McPadden. I know that he got his middle name from family roots, but I'm unsure as to the exact family history. I also have a great uncle named James McPadden. There is a family history trying to be compiled and a possible reunion in the works for either this summer or next summer. I may be able to hook you up with some contacts, but that's the best I could do.
Jaimee McPadden
