Hi Eve,
Further to your message below regarding your grandfather, Patrick Casserly, the following info. might be of interest.
* Do you have further info. on location of your granfathers place of birth (e.g. parish or townland) ?
* A search of the Civil Parishes for Griffiths Valuation (c. 1854) database which have been entered to date produces 53 matches.
* The parish of Tibohine contains the most "hits" - the estate of Riht Hon. John de Freyne (Frenchpark House) - townlands of Mullaghnashee, Lissergoole etc.
* Other locations include Kilkeevin (O'Connor Estate), Baslick and Estersnow.
* Your grandfathers birth predates Civil registration by 9 years so you will have to rely on a search of church baptismal records (contact Roscommon Heritage Centre).
* My own granfather (Patrick Casserly also) born 1859 possibly parish of Tibohine.
* See also earlier postings on Ed's Bulletin Board.
Good luck in your searches !!
**********************************
: Grandfather Patrick Casserly (Casserley), DOB 1855, came from Ireland to the US (central Iowa) in the early 1880's.
