Nerney-Duffy

Post by Gene Bishop »

I am doing a little research for my Mom, who is going to visit the Old Sod in the spring. She was born Anne Nerney in NYC, to Mary Nerney(nee Duffy), a school teacher and Thomas Owen Nerney, a sheep farmer, of Roscommon. Mary and Thomas came over before or around 1910.
My Mom is 1 0f 8 children all born in New York City, Thomas,Mary,Emily,Michael,Catherine,Theresa,Anne,& Neal, to the Nerney's. She remembers having relatives come to stay, when they were children, family names of Meehan,or Mehan.
Is there anybody who may have some info?

Gene
I am also researching the Nerneys, it is my mothers maiden name. She is from Doughill, Curraghroe, County Roscommon. Do you have the name of the townland where Thomas and Mary came from? Looking at the Nerneys on the 1901 census database there was a Thomas Nerney, born circa 1882 shown. He is listed as living with his older sister Catherine and parents Mary and Andrew in Culleenanory, this is very near to where my mother was born it would be interesting if this Thomas is the man you seek as this family were related to my own. Let me know if this rings any bells.
Brian Barry

: I am doing a little research for my Mom, who is going to visit the Old Sod in the spring. Gene and Brian,
Please search the bulletin board archived messages at the top of this page. There are a number of archived postings about Nerneys, including some about Nerneys from Doughill.
Mary Lee Dunn

: Gene
: I am also researching the Nerneys, it is my mothers maiden name.
