I,m researching my Connaughton ancestry and have just traced my grt grt grandfather to Boyle,Roscommon..Patrick Connaughton born c1818 Boyle, married Catherine Magee in 1845 Ardcarn,Boyle,Roscommon. They came to Lancashire between 1845/48.Is there anyone who can connect to this Patrick, anyone in that area of Roscommon who have family lines that go back that far???Any help would be greatly appreciated..Kind Regards,Kevin Connaughton,Oldham,Lancs.

Hi Kevin,
Actually, as you may well understand, I've been watching the new Bulletin Board making sure everything is working as planned. Your posting just gives me a reason to get on and check out the ability to post a response.
I just did a search on Connaughton AND Boyle and see that there was someone else in the archive that had an interest in the surname Connaughton and the area of Boyle. That's the good news, the bad news is that she posted back in 1998....but it's worth a try. Do the search and send her an email.

No Problem Kevin. As I mentioned, just looking for a good reason to make all the features on the BB work. Good luck with your research.

Hi Loree, just read your post and am quite excited to say the least.I have only been tracing for about three months and was not expecting to get this far,i looked for the marriage of Patrick and Catherine for weeks thinking they were married in England, then i found it on IGI,Patrick stated on 1861 census that he was born Boyle,so a big clue..Ihave Catherine on 1861,1871,1881 censuses and she states Dublin as birthplace on each..I didnt know of the baptism of John, but they had at least six others,Michael1848,John??1851,Patrick1854,Sarah1857,Catherine1861 and my grt grandfather Hugh1867..Patrick{snr} died in 1872 and Catherine(Mcgee)died 1892..I would be more than happy to pass on any info i have regarding Catherine/Patrick and siblings..also anything else you could tell me about Catherine and the Mcgees,i would be fascinated to hear..Kind regards,Kevin.

Loree,is there any reason why Patrick and Catherines parents were not on the marriage register???Thanks ever so though for the names of the witnesses, they may help somewhere down the line..As you say Mcgee isnt/wasnt very common around that area,so the fact that Bridget and Catherine were around there at the same time is a coincidence(Catherine was born c1828).. Maybe they were related???..Also Loree,do you know the name of the church/chapel that the marriage took place???Many thanks for your help and keep in touch..Regards,Kevin.

Hi Loree, well thats gonna make it difficult for me to find Patricks parents, still there must be another way.I was thinking of maybe putting an announcement in the local newspaper over there, might be useful,if anybody over there can connect to Patrick..I,ll kep you up to date on anything i find regarding my Connaughtons and also the Magees..Kevin.

There was a Father Luke Connaughton who lived in Bolton (SS Peter & Pauls Parish) prior to his ordination.
