I have traced my great-grandfather Laurence Finneran to Taghmaconnell, Roscommon. He was born in 1850 approx and emigrated to England in the 1870's. He is found in the 1881 census in St Helens, Lancashire. He was married to Bridget. They both came from Kilkenny townland in Roscommon. Anyone with any info please get in touch.
Many thanks to John Hunter for his knowledge.

Tagmaconnell Catholic parish and Tagmaconnell Civil parish occupy the same area of land. This is an unusual situation in County Roscommon.

Parochial records for Tagmaconnell Catholic parish are on LDS film 926061 for the period 1842-1882.

At Griffith’s Valuation of Kilkenny townland, Malachi Finneran occupied a house, outbuildings and 138 acres of land. Total value £54.

For change of occupiers of land in Kilkenny townland from 1855 to at least 1920 see LDS film 867934.

Hi, I want to thank John Hunter for his references giving the film numbers to the parish records of Taghmaconnell on the LDS webpage. I had been unable to locate these on previous attempts.
Also, I think there is a connection to Laurence Finneran. My ggm was Rose Finneran, born ~1862, daughter of Malachy Finneran and Rose Moore. She married Patrick Norton about 1878. They came from Taghmaconnell, Roscommon, Ireland. Patrick and Rose moved to Boston. Ma where the census record of 1900 shows them having 10 children, 6 living. It seems likely that Laurence and Rose were siblings.
Take care, Carol
