Is Lisnagabra anywhere near Lisnamucklaugh? (Four Roads area, Co Roscommon) My grandmother lived at Lisnamucklaugh, Dysart, Ballinasloe, Co Roscommon (this is the way it was described to me, also using the designation "Four Roads"). I have no idea which all those terms are, eg., parish, townland, etc, or what order they are supposed to be in. I am trying to get a copy of her birth certificate, and what the Health Service Executive has come up with is someone who was born at Lisnagabra, Tisrara - I can't figure out if this would be the right person!

Moira,
From looking at a map, Lisnamucklagh and Lisnagabra are quite distinct, and are a few miles apart. Lisnamucklagh is beside Dysart church, in the civil parish of Taghboy (if you're looking up Griffiths). Whereas Lisnagabra (Lisnagavragh sometimes) is nearer Four Roads village, in the civil parish of Tisrara.

Moira,
For the location of both townlands see See the Ballyforan Catholic parish map at www.leitrim-roscommon.com

To find the change of occupiers of land in the two townlands from Griffith’s Valuation to c1920> see
Lisnagavragh LDS film 868116
Lisnamucklagh LDS film 867941

The two townlands are in different Registrar’s Districts and different Civil Birth Registers

Lisnagavragh townland: Roscommon Registrar’s District.
Lisnamucklagh townland: Brideswell Registrar’s District.

If you want to search the LDS Irish birth records on microfilm, note that the townlands are in different Poor Law Unions.

John
