Fahy Roscommon

My great-great grandfather, Thomas Fahy was supposedly born in County Roscommon. I have no proof of this, I am only going by family lore. He was definitely from somewhere in Ireland and likely lived, at least for a while in Roscommon as he spoke of that place often. He would have been born around 1810.

I believe that he was married to Maria Anna Flannigan, in Kilbride parish. She did not (as far as I know) leave Ireland with him. Whether he just left her there or whether she passed on I have not a clue. In his old age he did speak of a wife and kids in Ireland. I found record of his marriage to her on microfische at a genealogy library.

He left Ireland for Liverpool around 1844 and worked there at the Guiness Ale Vaults for about two years. After that he went to NY. He worked in NY in the Ulster and Orange County areas for a couple of years, then went to Michigan for a couple of years. I have no information concerning his time in Michigan...where he went or how long exactly that he was there.

He then returned to NY and settled in Ulster County where he met and married my great-great grandmother, Julia Flynn, also thought to have come from County Roscommon. They married in 1850 at St. Mary's Church in Ellenville, Ulster County, NY.

Does anyone have any information about Fahy's in Roscommon? I am at a brick wall. I do not have a clue as to who Thomas Fahy's parents were. I will appreciate any information at all...longshots...anything. Please post here or email me directly at willow_pagan@yahoo.com

Thanks

Nora Fahy 1893-1976, b. Roscommon. M. to my cousin John Toucher in the States. Here are some of my notes on Nora, hope this helps. "Nora was the youngest of 13 children, Michael, Dennis, Delia, Margaret, Mary, Helen, Marie (someone married Pendergast). She came to the US with her friend Catherine Concannon. They were maids in New Rochelle. Most of the rest of the Fahey's who came here settled in Chicago.)

Soc Sec #041 62 7031.

I loved and adored both Nora and John. "Aunt Nora was my best buddy - we laughed all the time - shared opinions - went shopping -n I loved her to pieces. always, always, since I was very little, my Aunt Nora was my special, speial aunt. We had a relationship that is hard to define." Ltr, Betty Brown to Brian McC 4//114/02.

Death place, Waterbury, CT, residence, Mildord, CT. (Connecticut Death Index 1949-2001, state file # 17395)

The 1930 US Census - has Nora living with husband John, children John and Loretta at 471 South Fifth Avenue, Mt. Vernon, Westchester, New Ork. She is 33 and is a saleslady in a bakery. Her age here contrasts with our records, which have her as 36 or so in 1930." Brian McvCarthy, Mission Beach, California

For what it is worth. The 041 on the social security number indicates it was issued in Connecticut.
