Hi Bill,
I am a member of the Ballykilcline Society and I am sure we can share a great deal of information. Mary Lee Dunn, a member of our group, has done a great deal of research on evictees from Ballykilcline who settled in Rutland. The next reunion of The Ballykilcline Society will be held in Albany, NY and Rutland, VT June 25 - 27. Please contact me at

Hello Bill:
I've been researching the name NEARY in Roscommon for many, many years - and am yet to definitely confirm a townland - but I lean very positively towards Ballikilcline.
My earliest ancestor was Martin NEARY b. around 1807 and married in Birmingham (UK) in 1835.... so perhaps the first thing to ascertain is IF your Patrick had a sibling called Martin...
I found many NEARY families in and around Birmingham in the early part of the 19th century - a few Patrick's in there as well.
Many families in Ireland went to the UK first, saved money and then went to the U.S.
I'd be very interested to read whatever you know about your NEARY ancestors... and I can send you what I have managed to glean over the past few years.... you never know!!
With every good wish,
Valerie Kennedy (Launceston, Tasmania, Aust.)
